Who this journey suits
A private Prague-to-Passau transfer suits travellers combining a stay in Prague with a Danube cruise, particularly when several suitcases, children or a shared group itinerary make station changes inconvenient. It also works in reverse after disembarkation, with a Prague hotel as the destination.
It is not automatically the right choice for everyone. If you travel light and have a flexible day, compare public transport as well, including the final journey from the station to your actual berth. If your cruise package already includes a transfer, check that arrangement before booking a second one. Europe Pickup is an independent transfer provider, not your cruise operator.
Passau is not one single cruise terminal
Passau’s official tourism office distinguishes moorings near the Old Town from Lindau, about 3 kilometres downstream, and Racklau, about 2 kilometres upstream. It explicitly warns that not all moorings are within walking distance. Do not use a photograph of the old-town waterfront as proof of where your ship will be.
Ask your cruise operator for the ship name, the berth or landing-stage identifier, a complete address or map pin, and the date those instructions apply to. Send the latest details to Europe Pickup and agree on a vehicle meeting point. A city-level quote to Passau is a starting point, not confirmation of a particular gangway.
The official page below includes a mooring map and a link to the port’s ship information. Use it alongside your cruise documents, not as a replacement for the operator’s instructions.
Passau Tourism: official moorings and port information →Work backwards from boarding, not from departure
Before choosing a Prague pickup time, identify the time your cruise operator requires you to be at the ship. A vessel’s advertised departure time is not a safe target for arriving with luggage. Also check whether you can leave bags before your cabin is ready.
Allow separately for the drive from your exact address, a comfort break if needed, local access at the berth, unloading and a delay buffer. The route page’s approximate driving time is not a guaranteed arrival time and does not include every part of boarding. Ask for the full plan if the connection is important; do not fill every spare minute with sightseeing.
If your schedule leaves little room, our editorial recommendation is a direct transfer or an overnight stay before embarkation rather than a long sightseeing detour. Hotel accommodation is a separate booking.
Option 1: a direct Prague hotel-to-ship transfer
Choose this when joining the cruise is the priority. Enter your actual hotel or apartment pickup address, then replace the general Passau destination with the confirmed berth address before finalising the trip. Tell us about pedestrian-only access or a reception entrance that differs from the street address.
Agree any necessary comfort break in advance. A brief roadside break and a planned town visit are different requests: the latter can add driving, waiting and walking time. Review the booking total after changing the itinerary rather than assuming that stops are included in the direct quote.
View the Prague–Passau route →Option 2: request a Písek stop when time allows
For travellers with a flexible day, Písek offers a focused South Bohemian visit rather than a long list of unrelated attractions. The town’s official tourism site highlights its historic Stone Bridge across the Otava. A riverside walk and a meal can be a clearer plan than trying to fit several museums into an undefined short stop.
Treat this as a requested itinerary option, not a stop automatically included in every Passau booking. Ask for Prague → Písek → your confirmed Passau berth to be checked and priced as one journey. If the calculator does not offer the stop for your selected addresses, contact us to confirm feasibility instead of booking a direct ride and adding it informally later.
Choose a visit duration, agree where you will leave and rejoin the vehicle, and keep the boarding deadline intact. Walking ability, weather and time to reach the meeting point matter. Any attraction tickets, meal or guided visit are separate unless explicitly confirmed.
Písek Tourism: the Stone Bridge →Passau to Prague after your cruise
For the reverse trip, use the time you expect to be ashore with your luggage and the cruise operator’s confirmed disembarkation location. Ship arrival, cabin checkout and being ready beside the vehicle can be different moments. Agree the pickup time with these details in mind.
Send the driver or dispatcher your reachable phone number and stay at the agreed meeting point. If the operator issues different berth instructions, forward them and wait for confirmation of the revised pickup. Do not assume a driver can infer a change from the ship name alone.
If Prague Airport is your destination, select the airport explicitly, not Prague city. Provide the flight details and ask for a realistic plan against the airline’s check-in guidance. A transfer does not guarantee a flight connection.
Flying into Prague before the cruise?
A Prague Airport arrival followed by a drive to Passau is a different starting point from a Prague hotel. Enter Václav Havel Airport Prague as pickup and send the flight number, date and berth information. Do not copy a hotel departure time into an airport booking.
Consider the consequences of a delayed flight or baggage collection before choosing same-day embarkation. We cannot guarantee that a cruise ship will wait. Our airport guide explains Europe Pickup’s terminal meeting points; the cruise operator remains the authority on boarding.
Read the Prague Airport meeting-point guide →Vehicle, luggage and access: what to confirm
List passengers, large suitcases, cabin bags and unusual items separately. A seat count does not prove that all luggage fits. Include child-seat needs and the folded dimensions of a pram or mobility aid, where relevant, and choose the arrangement supported by the quote.
If a passenger cannot comfortably walk between a vehicle and the ship, discuss the required assistance and access before paying. Do not assume a standard sedan or minivan is wheelchair-accessible or that the vehicle can park beside the gangway. Confirm the practical meeting point, not only the street name.
How to get the current price
Use Calculate this trip for a Prague-to-Passau starting route, or the opposite-direction link for Passau-to-Prague. Both are separate one-way calculations. Replace city names with exact addresses and enter the travel date, pickup time, passengers, luggage and any agreed stops.
This guide deliberately does not promise a single city-to-ship fare: the current calculator is the price reference for the selected journey. Check the final route, vehicle count, total and payment terms before paying. A changed berth, airport endpoint or sightseeing stop needs a reviewed quote, not an assumed unchanged price.
Is Vilshofen the same pickup as Passau?
No. Europe Pickup lists Vilshofen an der Donau as a separate destination. If your cruise documents say Vilshofen, use that destination and the confirmed berth details rather than booking Passau because it is a familiar cruise-port name.
Open the Vilshofen route instead →Can I book before the final berth is known?
You can begin planning with the city route, but ask Europe Pickup how the still-unknown endpoint should be handled before finalising a booking. Send the final berth as soon as the cruise operator confirms it. Do not invent an address or assume that a city-centre quote locks in every possible landing stage.
Does the driver organise cruise check-in?
Do not assume so. The transfer and the cruise are separate services. Keep your cruise documents available and follow the operator’s check-in instructions. Any special assistance or handling beyond the confirmed transfer should be agreed explicitly.
